This commitment is enshrined both in the contract between the company and the Senegalese government and in the Eramet Group&#8217;s CSR roadmap.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div><div class=\"fusion-panel panel-default panel-224b66ced9d55629e fusion-toggle-no-divider\" style=\"--awb-title-color:#e30613;\"><div class=\"panel-heading\"><h2 class=\"panel-title toggle\" id=\"toggle_224b66ced9d55629e\"><a aria-expanded=\"false\" aria-controls=\"224b66ced9d55629e\" role=\"button\" data-toggle=\"collapse\" data-parent=\"#accordion-2289-1\" data-target=\"#224b66ced9d55629e\" href=\"#224b66ced9d55629e\"><span class=\"fusion-toggle-icon-wrapper\" aria-hidden=\"true\"><i class=\"fa-fusion-box active-icon awb-icon-minus\" aria-hidden=\"true\"><\/i><i class=\"fa-fusion-box inactive-icon awb-icon-plus\" aria-hidden=\"true\"><\/i><\/span><span class=\"fusion-toggle-heading\">Allegation #2: The mine pollutes the Lompoul desert.<\/span><\/a><\/h2><\/div><div id=\"224b66ced9d55629e\" class=\"panel-collapse collapse \" aria-labelledby=\"toggle_224b66ced9d55629e\"><div class=\"panel-body toggle-content fusion-clearfix\">\n<p>Wrong:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Eramet Grande C\u00f4te uses no chemicals to mine the mineralized sand found in the dunes.<\/li>\n<li>The extraction process is purely mechanical. It is based on sand suction and centrifugal sorting at the rear of the mobile dredger. Over 98.5% of the sand pumped out is immediately discharged, with no alteration, at the back of the site, where it is dried and stabilized.<\/li>\n<li>As soon as the sand has been extracted, our teams restore the dunes to bring their topography as close as possible to their original state. Next comes the rehabilitation and revegetation phase.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div><div class=\"fusion-panel panel-default panel-2f95eb1178daf5a6d fusion-toggle-no-divider\" style=\"--awb-title-color:#e30613;\"><div class=\"panel-heading\"><h2 class=\"panel-title toggle\" id=\"toggle_2f95eb1178daf5a6d\"><a aria-expanded=\"false\" aria-controls=\"2f95eb1178daf5a6d\" role=\"button\" data-toggle=\"collapse\" data-parent=\"#accordion-2289-1\" data-target=\"#2f95eb1178daf5a6d\" href=\"#2f95eb1178daf5a6d\"><span class=\"fusion-toggle-icon-wrapper\" aria-hidden=\"true\"><i class=\"fa-fusion-box active-icon awb-icon-minus\" aria-hidden=\"true\"><\/i><i class=\"fa-fusion-box inactive-icon awb-icon-plus\" aria-hidden=\"true\"><\/i><\/span><span class=\"fusion-toggle-heading\">Allegation #3: The mine destroys market-garden land and impacts local farmers.<\/span><\/a><\/h2><\/div><div id=\"2f95eb1178daf5a6d\" class=\"panel-collapse collapse \" aria-labelledby=\"toggle_2f95eb1178daf5a6d\"><div class=\"panel-body toggle-content fusion-clearfix\">\n<p>Wrong:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>We mine mineralized sands found in the dunes. The dredger does not operate near the sea. To the east, the Niayes cordon is not affected either. The impact on market gardening is therefore limited.<\/li>\n<li>Impacted areas are revegetated as the mine progresses, and eventually returned to the Senegalese government. By 2022, the site had initiated the land restitution cycle with 85 hectares returned to the government, only eight years after the launch of Eramet Grande C\u00f4te&#8217;s operations. The <em>Direction des Eaux et For\u00eats<\/em> then decides on the final use of the land.<\/li>\n<li>By the end of the year, Eramet Grande C\u00f4te plans to return almost 1,000 hectares of rehabilitated sites to the Senegalese government.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>True:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>When land or dune edges used by market gardeners are impacted by the passage of the mobile dredger, a compensation scheme, managed from A to Z by the <em>Commission d\u00e9partementale de Recensement et \u00c9valuation des Impacts<\/em>, is set up. This commission, chaired by the prefect, is made up of representatives of the departmental services, local authorities, communities directly affected and Eramet Grande C\u00f4te employees.<\/li>\n<li>The amount of these compensations is determined based on specific criteria and varies from one producer to another. Factors influencing the compensation include the size of the impacted fields, existing investments or assets in these fields, additional investments made on these lands such as buildings, irrigation systems, boreholes, ponds or wells.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div><div class=\"fusion-panel panel-default panel-c2c77f9408e2b5d98 fusion-toggle-no-divider\" style=\"--awb-title-color:#e30613;\"><div class=\"panel-heading\"><h2 class=\"panel-title toggle\" id=\"toggle_c2c77f9408e2b5d98\"><a aria-expanded=\"false\" aria-controls=\"c2c77f9408e2b5d98\" role=\"button\" data-toggle=\"collapse\" data-parent=\"#accordion-2289-1\" data-target=\"#c2c77f9408e2b5d98\" href=\"#c2c77f9408e2b5d98\"><span class=\"fusion-toggle-icon-wrapper\" aria-hidden=\"true\"><i class=\"fa-fusion-box active-icon awb-icon-minus\" aria-hidden=\"true\"><\/i><i class=\"fa-fusion-box inactive-icon awb-icon-plus\" aria-hidden=\"true\"><\/i><\/span><span class=\"fusion-toggle-heading\">Allegation #4: Eramet Grande C\u00f4te's activities reduce the availability of groundwater used by farmers.<\/span><\/a><\/h2><\/div><div id=\"c2c77f9408e2b5d98\" class=\"panel-collapse collapse \" aria-labelledby=\"toggle_c2c77f9408e2b5d98\"><div class=\"panel-body toggle-content fusion-clearfix\">\n<p>Wrong:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Eramet Grande C\u00f4te&#8217;s activities have no impact on the groundwater used by farmers and communities.<\/li>\n<li>The mine has a pumping system located at a depth of over 450m, well below the groundwater used by farmers.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>True:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The mobile mine needs water to operate. It floats on an artificial water pond.<\/li>\n<li>The dredger sucks up raw sand and water, which it sends to the floating plant where mineralized and unmineralized sands are then separated. The water contained in the unmineralized sands is recovered by surface pumping along the mine and discharged into the pond.<\/li>\n<li>The process increases the amount of water in the surface groundwater by pumping water from the deep groundwater into the pond. The pond water then infiltrates into the surface groundwater. This benefits market-gardening activities.<\/li>\n<li>A continuous monitoring system is in place to ensure the levels and quality of the surface and deep groundwater. Results are regularly transmitted to the relevant authorities.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div><div class=\"fusion-panel panel-default panel-a1d2dbe05a12001cd fusion-toggle-no-divider\" style=\"--awb-title-color:#e30613;\"><div class=\"panel-heading\"><h2 class=\"panel-title toggle\" id=\"toggle_a1d2dbe05a12001cd\"><a aria-expanded=\"false\" aria-controls=\"a1d2dbe05a12001cd\" role=\"button\" data-toggle=\"collapse\" data-parent=\"#accordion-2289-1\" data-target=\"#a1d2dbe05a12001cd\" href=\"#a1d2dbe05a12001cd\"><span class=\"fusion-toggle-icon-wrapper\" aria-hidden=\"true\"><i class=\"fa-fusion-box active-icon awb-icon-minus\" aria-hidden=\"true\"><\/i><i class=\"fa-fusion-box inactive-icon awb-icon-plus\" aria-hidden=\"true\"><\/i><\/span><span class=\"fusion-toggle-heading\">Allegation #5: Eramet Grande C\u00f4te has a negative economic and social impact on Senegal.<\/span><\/a><\/h2><\/div><div id=\"a1d2dbe05a12001cd\" class=\"panel-collapse collapse \" aria-labelledby=\"toggle_a1d2dbe05a12001cd\"><div class=\"panel-body toggle-content fusion-clearfix\">\n<p>Wrong:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Eramet Grande C\u00f4te has generated 149 million euros in economic benefits for Senegal in 2023. We employ around 2,000 employees and contractors, 97% of whom are Senegalese. In terms of local content, 77% of Eramet Grande C\u00f4te&#8217;s purchases are made in Senegal. According to a ranking by the EITI (Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative), an independent body, we are currently the fourth largest mining contributor to the state budget.<\/li>\n<li>Each year, a budget of 400,000 euros is spent on community investments, in line with the Mining Social Program budget set out in the mining agreement.<\/li>\n<li>In addition, in October 2024, Eramet Grande C\u00f4te launched BUILD, a project with a strong societal impact, benefitting people living near the mining concession in the Louga region. The project aims to create and develop income-generating economic activities in the market gardening, fishing and livestock sectors.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>True:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Our mine is inherently mobile, covering an area from the south of the village of Fass Boye to the north of the village of Lompoul, crossing the 4 communes of Darou Khoudoss, Kab Gaye, Diokoul Diawrigne and Thieppe. Since the launch of its operations in 2017, Eramet Grande C\u00f4te has been carrying out physical and economic resettlement on an ongoing basis, notably in the Darou Khoudoss area (between 2017 and 2022) and in the communes of Kab Gaye (2023) and Thieppe (2024-2028), located in the Louga region.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div><div class=\"fusion-panel panel-default panel-212c12d43c694453d fusion-toggle-no-divider\" style=\"--awb-title-color:#e30613;\"><div class=\"panel-heading\"><h2 class=\"panel-title toggle\" id=\"toggle_212c12d43c694453d\"><a aria-expanded=\"false\" aria-controls=\"212c12d43c694453d\" role=\"button\" data-toggle=\"collapse\" data-parent=\"#accordion-2289-1\" data-target=\"#212c12d43c694453d\" href=\"#212c12d43c694453d\"><span class=\"fusion-toggle-icon-wrapper\" aria-hidden=\"true\"><i class=\"fa-fusion-box active-icon awb-icon-minus\" aria-hidden=\"true\"><\/i><i class=\"fa-fusion-box inactive-icon awb-icon-plus\" aria-hidden=\"true\"><\/i><\/span><span class=\"fusion-toggle-heading\">Allegation #6: Eramet Grande C\u00f4te destroys local tourism.<\/span><\/a><\/h2><\/div><div id=\"212c12d43c694453d\" class=\"panel-collapse collapse \" aria-labelledby=\"toggle_212c12d43c694453d\"><div class=\"panel-body toggle-content fusion-clearfix\">\n<p>True:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>After ten years of operation, the mine&#8217;s route, defined in agreement with the national authorities, now crosses a tourist zone, the Lompoul artificial desert.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Wrong:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The impact of this route has been anticipated for several years, and Eramet Grande C\u00f4te has voluntarily decided to create <em>l\u2019Oasis du S\u00e9n\u00e9gal<\/em>, to transform this negative impact into a positive opportunity for tourism development. In addition to compensating tourist operators on the mining concession, Eramet Grande C\u00f4te has gone beyond its duty as a responsible mining company by imagining and financing a tourist site that is unique in Senegal.<\/li>\n<li>This 3-million-euro project, for which the technical documentation has been submitted to the relevant authorities, SAPCO, is designed to relocate tourism activities from the Lompoul artificial desert. It has now been completed and is in the process of being handed over to the Senegalese authorities.<\/li>\n<li>The 544-hectare site includes a 2,000 m\u00b2 lake and an 8-hectare palm grove. It is intended to preserve existing jobs and create new ones through a more diversified tourism offering.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div><div class=\"fusion-panel panel-default panel-135d6df88f9ddb6f9 fusion-toggle-no-divider\" style=\"--awb-title-color:#e30613;\"><div class=\"panel-heading\"><h2 class=\"panel-title toggle\" id=\"toggle_135d6df88f9ddb6f9\"><a aria-expanded=\"false\" aria-controls=\"135d6df88f9ddb6f9\" role=\"button\" data-toggle=\"collapse\" data-parent=\"#accordion-2289-1\" data-target=\"#135d6df88f9ddb6f9\" href=\"#135d6df88f9ddb6f9\"><span class=\"fusion-toggle-icon-wrapper\" aria-hidden=\"true\"><i class=\"fa-fusion-box active-icon awb-icon-minus\" aria-hidden=\"true\"><\/i><i class=\"fa-fusion-box inactive-icon awb-icon-plus\" aria-hidden=\"true\"><\/i><\/span><span class=\"fusion-toggle-heading\">Allegation #7: Our activities have amplified the phenomenon of people leaving in clandestine pirogues.<\/span><\/a><\/h2><\/div><div id=\"135d6df88f9ddb6f9\" class=\"panel-collapse collapse \" aria-labelledby=\"toggle_135d6df88f9ddb6f9\"><div class=\"panel-body toggle-content fusion-clearfix\">\n<p>Wrong:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Unfortunately, illegal emigration was already present in the area long before mining activities began.<\/li>\n<li>For ten years, Eramet Grande C\u00f4te&#8217;s operations have been creating local jobs.
