Eramet Grande C\u00f4te, Diogo, Senegal, has partnered with JUWI Renewable Energies (www.juwi.co.za), a global renewable energy company, to develop an off-grid solar photovoltaic (PV) and battery storage solution for large-scale industrial operations.<\/p>\n

The 20 MWp solar and 11 MWh battery project, which has reached financial close, is designed to reduce the mine\u2019s reliance on heavy fuel oil, enhance production stability, and support decarbonisation efforts. The installation is expected to supply 20% of the mine\u2019s power, cut carbon emissions by 25,000 tons per year, and create over 100 jobs during its construction and maintenance phases. This project actively contributes to the SBTi\u00a0roadmap of the Group Eramet.<\/p>\n

The project meets the energy needs of the mine but also plays a role in driving sustainable mining practices and advancing decarbonisation across Africa. By leveraging JUWI\u2019s expertise in off-grid solar and storage solutions, along with their engineering capabilities for complex ground conditions, alongside Eramet Grande C\u00f4te\/Eramet\u2019s commitment to sustainability, the project contributes to decarbonizing the mining industry.<\/p>\n

The clean energy produced by this plant will contribute to improve Eramet Grande C\u00f4te’s environmental performance. <\/em>said Frederic Zanklan, CEO, Grande C\u00f4te Operations SA. Our investment in this solar power plant project is in line with Eramet Grande C\u00f4te’s and Eramet’s commitment to act for positive mining and to accelerate the decarbonization of our industry.<\/em><\/p>\n

About Eramet Grande C\u00f4te<\/strong><\/p>\n

Eramet Grande C\u00f4te is the world’s 4th largest producer of mineralized sands: ilmenite, leucoxene, zircon and rutile.<\/p>\n

The mining company has invested nearly US$800 million in a floating mine, a processing plant, a 36MW power plant, the Diogo-Dakar railway line and port facilities in Dakar. Production began in 2014.<\/p>\n

With over 2,000 employees, the company is developing on the basis of the most demanding standards. Eramet Grande C\u00f4te is the first mining company in Senegal to be ISO 14 001 and ISO 50 001 certified. It is also the first mine to have returned revegetated land to the State.<\/p>\n
