A strong anchor in the Senegalese economy

In 2024, Eramet Grande Côte invested over 70.5 billion CFA francs (€107 million) in purchasing goods and services from Senegalese suppliers, thereby strengthening its direct impact on the local economy. Today, 67% of its purchases are made in Senegal through a network of more than 800 national companies, 75% of which are based in Dakar and 130 in the Thiès region, near the site.

This partnership is based on a relationship of trust, founded on Eramet’s Responsible Purchasing policy and Ethics Charter.

Furthermore, Eramet Grande Côte actively supports local employment: 22 billion CFA francs were allocated to payroll for 2,526 direct jobs, 98% of which are held by Senegalese nationals.

The company also paid 28 billion CFA francs (€42 million) in taxes and duties, positioning itself as the 5th largest mining contributor to the state budget, according to the EITI.

Finally, in terms of training, Eramet Grande Côte has established strong ties with various higher education institutions (ESP Dakar and Thiès, École Supérieure Nationale des Mines et de la Géologie, etc.) and training organizations (ONFP, 3FPT, etc.).

Development projects in favor of local communities

Eramet Grande Cote, in partnership with the Senegalese state, is implementing a social mining program to invest in the development of local communities, in addition to compensation and the restoration of livelihoods.

Through this strengthened commitment to social responsibility, more than 20,000 people have benefited from initiatives in the fields of health, agriculture, entrepreneurship, and territorial development.

A tripartite commission, including mayors, local populations, civil society, and representatives of Eramet Grande Cote, decides on the actions to be taken. A rotating system allows investments to be concentrated by municipality each year.

A unique achievement: the Oasis of Senegal

In 2024, Eramet Grande Côte delivered the Oasis of Senegal, a tourist site funded by the company, which invested 2 billion CFA francs (€3 million) in this voluntary project.

It ensures the continuity of tourism activities with the installation of seven lodges that previously operated in the Lompoul Desert and were also compensated.

Covering an area of 544 hectares, the site offers a landscaped zone of 2,000 m², a palm plantation, and relaxation spaces. The Oasis of Senegal is placed under the public authority of Senegal.

Eramet Beyond: supporting local economic diversification

In 2022, Eramet launched the Eramet Beyond for contributive impacts program to amplify its societal and economic participation in its host countries by:

  • Funding projects that support local employment beyond its mining activities;
  • Contributing to solving societal issues beyond infrastructure support;
  • Prioritizing rural or isolated populations.

The emergence of economic ecosystems that do not rely solely on Eramet’s activities is essential to avoid creating dependency in the territories where the Group operates.

In Senegal, Eramet Beyond is embodied in two major programs: Femmes d’Avenir and Build.

Women of the Future: Promoting the success of Senegalese women entrepreneurs

The “Women of the Future” program aims to enable more than 615 Senegalese women entrepreneurs to strengthen their soft skills to foster their professional success.

Piloted in close collaboration with Women in Africa (WIA) Philanthropy and the State of Senegal, the program includes two training tracks:

  • The “young shoots” program offers training to 200 young female entrepreneurs each year, divided into 4 cohorts of 50 participants. Each cohort benefits from intensive 2-day training sessions.
  • The “confirmed entrepreneur” program provides tailored support delivered throughout the year by experts from the Women in Africa network. Each year, it supports five high-potential women.

In 2024, 178 women from Dakar and Thiès benefited from a capacity-building program, and 1,749 indirect jobs were supported.

Build Project: contributing to the development of the Louga region

Launched at the end of 2024 by Eramet Grande Côte for a duration of 4 years, the Build project (Beyond Uniting Initiatives for Louga’s Development) is designed to contribute to the growth of the Louga region by focusing on three priority sectors: market gardening, livestock farming, and fishing.

  • 3 municipalities: Thieppe, Kab Gaye, and Diokoul Diawgrine
  • 8,200 targeted beneficiaries
  • 816 direct and indirect jobs targeted

The project has two complementary components:

  • The development of agricultural infrastructure and equipment, particularly to construct or rehabilitate rural facilities, enhance production through proper storage and semi-industrial processing, and improve market access.
  • The strengthening of the capacities of target populations, especially through the training of 500 beneficiaries in management and marketing techniques and 250 people in processing techniques for horticultural, fishery, and dairy products. Support is also provided for business management.
